While everyone is busy talking about the hit by Raffi Torres that sent the Blackhawks’ Marian Hossa off the ice on a stretcher, most have chosen to completely ignore the nasty flying elbow delivered by Sean Bergenheim to the back of Anton Volchenkov’s head during Game 3 between the Florida Panthers and the New Jersey Devils last night.
With fights, cheap shots and illegal hits to the head becoming the focal point of the 2012 NHL playoffs thus far, many of us find ourselves searching for answer to why the 2012 post-season brand of hockey has become so vicious. And after watching Shea Weber’s turnbuckle-style head-smash on Henrik Zetterberg, and Bergenheim’s flying elbow on Volchenkov, I am beginning to believe that it may have something to do with all the buzz surrounding Brock Lesnar’s return to the WWE.
