Chael Sonnen Is The King Of The Post-Fight Interview (Video)

chael sonnen post-fight interviewThe main card for this past weekend’s UFC on FOX event provided 55 minutes of fighting.  Unfortunately, those 55 minutes yielded few highlights during what many deemed to be a rather uneventful show.

Perhaps the best highlight of the night didn’t even take place during one of the evening’s three main cards.  Instead, it took place following the second-last bout of the night, as Chael Sonnen celebrated his controversial decision over Michael Bisping by sharing his always entertaining thoughts and words with Joe Rogan and the rest of those in attendance at the United Center in Chicago.

Budweiser Flash Mob Commercial Brings Some Life To This Men’s League Hockey Game (Video)

budweiser men's league hockey flash mobTwo men’s league hockey teams from Port Credit, Ontario thought they were being recorded as part of a documentary about rec league hockey.  Little did they know that they would soon be playing in front of a raucous sellout crowd  as part of a flash mob that was set up by Budweiser for their latest Super Bowl commercial.

After watching the following video, I can’t help but be at least somewhat bitter at the fact that I will be playing a men’s league hockey game tonight in front of an empty arena, but at least Mr. Budweiser will be there to cheer me up in the dressing room following the game.

Stat Line Of The Night — 2/2/12 — Sam Gagner

sam gagnerPrior to last night, the Edmonton Oilers’ record for most points in a game was held by two of the greatest players to ever play the game; Paul Coffey and Wayne Gretzky.  Following last night’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks, they now find themselves sharing that record with a somewhat unlikely third member of the Oilers.

Playing on the team’s top line with Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall, 22-year-old forward Sam Gagner made the most of his opportunity, as he recorded  points on each of his team’s eight goals during their 8-4 victory.  Four of those points came via goals (with three of them coming in the third period), while his other four points were assists.  It was the first time an NHL player has recorded eight points in a single game since Mario Lemieux did it on December 31, 1988, and it earns Gagner the “Stat Line of the Night” for Thursday, February 1, 2012.

Here is a look at Gagner receiving the first, second and third star of the game.

13 Sensational Super Bowl Scandals

The thing I like best about the Super Bowl is that it’s not just a sporting event. It’s a pop culture phenomenon, and all the stuff surrounding the actual game—whether it’s the halftime show, or the commercials, or the performance of the National Anthem—has a life of it’s own.

Who was that hot girl seen with the backup kicker? Some intrepid reporter will find out. Will the washed up singer starring in the halftime show make a fool of herself? Tune in at six to find out what the experts think. Which commercial will be the big winner this year? Hear from a panel of experts.

So yeah, when it comes to the Super Bowl, just about any little thing can be made into a big deal. Then again, not everything surrounding the Super Bowl is pure hype. Sometimes there really are legitimate scandals leading up to or during the big game. And since Super Bowl XLVI is going down this Sunday, I thought I’d provide you with a rundown of 13 biggest scandals in the history of the event.

So check ‘em out.

This Day In Sports History (February 3rd) – Super Bowl XXXVI

It was on this day in 2002 that Super Bowl XXVI between the St. Louis Rams and the New England Patriots took place at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.  Despite entering the game as 14-point underdogs, the Patriots would shock the world by beating the Rams 20-17 in one of the biggest upsets in Super Bowl history.

The Rams entered the game with the league’s most potent offense, but they were shut down by a solid Patriots’ defense and some great game planning from coach Bill Belichick.  That allowed New England to enter the final quarter leading 17-3, but two Kurt Warner touchdowns (one passing and one rushing) would tie things up with only 1:30 left to play.  That was just enough time for Pats’ quarterback Tom Brady to drive his offense down the field and set up kicker Adam Vinatieri for a 48-yard game-winning field goal, which he made with no time remaining on the clock.

Brady would be named the game’s MVP as he led the Patriots’ franchise to their first ever Super Bowl victory.  They would record two more over the next three years, earning them the reputation as both “a dynasty” and “the team of the decade.”

Here is a look at the final 30 seconds of Super Bowl XXXVI.

Watch Dan Boyle Score In His Own Net (Video)

dan boyle scores in his own netWith only four goals in 49 games this season, Dan Boyle is beginning to become somewhat desperate to score these days.  His desperation to find the back of the net reached new heights during last night’s game against the Dallas Stars, as he gave up his pursuit to score on the opposing netminder, and instead, decided to fire one past his own goalie.

That goal would bring the Stars back to within one of the San Jose Sharks, but that was as close as they would come, as the Sharks cruised to the 5-2 victory.  That win surely made it a lot easier for Boyle to laugh at his embarrassing mishap following the game.

Kathy LantiquaHere are some of the best sports plays for all you gamblers out there.

The Game: Los Angeles Kings @ St. Louis Blues

The Pick: Under 5

The Reason: Kings games continue to produce five goals or less this season, as they have gone over the total just 11 times in 51 games.  Their opponents tonight, the St. Louis Blues, aren’t too far off that pace, having gone over in just 12 of their 49 games this season.  The Blues are averaging just 2.53 goals this season, while giving up just 2.08 against.  As for for the Kings, they have given up just 2.22 goals against per game, while scoring just 2.24 goals themselves.  Look for a defensive stalemate to unfold as this game goes under the total.

The Game: New York Knicks @ Boston Celtics

The Pick: Under 184

The Reason: The Knicks enter tonight’s game having gone under the total in 12 of their last 16 games.  They have also gone under the total in each of their last five road games.  As for the Celtics, they have gone under the total in 11 of their last 15 games overall, and 10 of their last 11 games at home.   They are one of the league’s lowest scoring teams at home, averaging only 88.2 points per game on their home court.  They also have one of the best home defenses, allowing only 81.2 points against per game at the TD Garden this season.  Look for them to keep this game low scoring, as it goes under the 184-point total.

yu darvish adult film star gfAfter the Texas Rangers paid over $111-million to acquire Japanese pitcher Yu Dravish, many of you may have found yourselves wondering, “who the hell is Yu Darvish?”

In an effort to answer that question, we should probably start off by telling you that Darvish is not your typical Japanese pitcher.  But that has nothing to do with his wind-up or delivery style.  Instead, it has to do with his radical lifestyle, as the 35-year-old has posed nude for a women’s magazine and current reports have indicated that he is now dating a “G-Cup adult movie star” that is known for her “electric tongue.”

An electric tongue?  Hopefully Darvish has access to the type of protection that prevents both STDs and electric shocks.

For more on the story, and some images of Darvish’s G-Cup friend, check out the clip from NMA World below.

nma world tom bradyLeading up to Sunday’s big game between the New york Giants and the New England Patriots, football fans around the world continue to debate who the better quarterback is; Tom Brady or Eli Manning?

While Eli’s clutch performances down the stretch this season and his impressive playoff performance during the 2007 NFL season – which concluded with a Super Bowl victory over the Patriots – is hard to overlook, Brady almost always has to get the nod in such a debate, given his three Super Bowl rings, two Super Bowl MVPs and numerous prestigious quarterback records.

So who did the people at NMA World decide to go with when picking the more “elite” quarterback?

Maria Menounos Loses Bet, Wears New York Giants Bikini (Pics/Video)

During Media Week at Lucas Oil Stadium, the lovely host of Extra, Maria Menounos, explained to Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski a Super Bowl bet she had agreed to with her correspondent, A.J. Calloway.  According to Maria, the bet called for her to do Monday’s show in a Giants bikini if they beat the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.

Many of us couldn’t help but be intrigued by the prospects of seeing Maria in a bikini.  That includes Gronk himself, who at the time stated, “at least there’s a positive if we lose.”  Well Gronk and the Patriots did go on to lose to the Giants, so one can only hope that he was able to take advantage of that “positive” by tuning into yesterday’s episode of Extra and catching the following sight of Maria reporting from Times Square in her skimpy little bikini.

Being one of the many who bet on the Patriots on Sunday, I can honestly say that this makes losing all of that money well worth it.

And in case that wasn’t enough, here are some more images of Maria in a Giants bikini for you to ogle.

The Game: Charlotte Bobcats @ Boston Celtics

The Pick: Under 176.5

The Reason: The Bobcats enter tonight’s game having gone under the total in seven of their last eight overall, and each of their last five on the road.  Now they take on a Celtics team that has gone under the total in 12 of their 15 home games this season.  The Celtics are giving up just 81.7 points per game at home this season (2nd in the league), while the Bobcats are scoring only 85.4 points per game on the road (29th in the league).  Look for the Celtics to limit the Bobcats offense and keep this game under the 176.5-point total.

The Game:Oklahoma City Thunder @ Golden State Warriors

The Pick: Thunder -2.5

The Reason: The Thunder continue to roll this season, having won 19 of their first 24 games.  They have been solid on the road, going 10-4 straight-up and 8-6 against the spread.  They are an impressive 8-3 ATS on the road against Western Conference teams.  As for the Warriors, they are a mediocre 6-7 straight-up at home, and 5-8 ATS.  They are 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home, and 2-6 ATS in their last eight overall.  Look for the Thunder to come away with both the win, and the cover tonight.

Crazy Kings Fan Does His Victory Dance (Video)

crazy kings fanFans of the Sacramento Kings haven’t had much to cheer about over the past few season. This year is no different (their record is 9-15), however, they do currently find themselves on a three-game winning streak. That tiny bit of success was enough to get this guy out of his seat and dancing in the aisles of the Power Balance Pavilion during a recent game against the Golden State Warriors.

Unfortunately, the chances of them continue their wining ways are slim, meaning we may have very well seen the last of this dude.  So be sure to enjoy him while you still can.

For most sports fans, living the life of a professional athlete is the ultimate fantasy. People chanting your name, exotic cars, fancy suits, gorgeous women—what’s not to fantasize about?* So to those of us sitting at home watching the game on the couch, it’s always mind-boggling when we see pro athletes misbehaving or getting involved in illegal activities that land them in prison. Why, we wonder, would these guys ever do anything that could jeopardize their lucrative careers?

*Besides the endless traveling, debilitating injuries, family always asking you for money, and insane pressure to perform night in and night out

Well, human nature is what it is, and being rich and famous doesn’t mean you’re not greedy and stupid. So sometimes, pro athletes end up in jail.

Today we’re going to take a look at 13 such pro athlete-convicts who had their careers interrupted by incarceration. But don’t worry: this will be Vick-free list. You’ve heard enough about that guy, and frankly I’m tired of writing about him. Thus, since we all know he went to jail for running a dogfighting ring, we’ll just leave him off.

So with that said, click away to see who comes in at #13…

jimmy kimmel unplug tv super bowlLast week Jimmy Kimmel asked his viewers to unplug their televisions at some point during Sunday’s Super Bowl, record the reactions of those in attendance to watch the game, and send the footage into his show.  Well the results are in, and while some went so far as to suggest that a prank like this could result in murder, we are pleased to announce that no one was killed during the recording of Kimmel’s “Unplug the TV during the Super Bowl” challenge.

It wasn’t all fun and games, however, as the cruel act did entice several f-bombs, a few possible divorces, and one nonfatal chair beating.

Want To See A Hockey Player Fly? (Video)

orpik sends paille flyingMany people have used the saying “When pigs fly” to describe something that is virtually impossible.  Being a sports lover and die-hard hockey fan, I have often used the term “when hockey players fly” to describe the Toronto Maple Leafs chances at winning another Stanley Cup or Scott Gomez’s chances of scoring another goal (it has been over a calendar year since the $7-million/year man has last scored).

Well if that figure of speech holds true, I guess we can assume that a Leafs Stanley Cup parade and a Scott Gomez goal celebration are right around the corner after witnessing Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik send Bruins’ forward Daniel Paille soaring through the air on Saturday night.

Blonde Giants Fan Attends Giants’ Super Bowl Parade To See…Mark Sanchez? (Video)

female giants fan wants sanchezYou simply have to love bandwagon footballs fans.  You couldn’t find them within 100 yards of a television every Sunday throughout the entire NFL season, but once they realize their New York Giants are in the Super Bowl, they are the first ones to buy a jersey and paint their face blue for the big game.  And after their newly-adopted favorite team wins it all, they are always the first to hit the streets and celebrate with all of the diehards who spent the past five months enduring the aches and pains of another roller-coaster season.

One can only image that there were thousands of bandwagoners among the nearly one million fans that gathered along the streets of Manhattan earlier today to celebrate the Giants’ Super Bowl XLVI win over the New England Patriots.  We spotted one of them in the video below.

Sounds like someone’s going to be disappointed when they find out that Mark Sanchez won’t be attending this year’s Super Bowl parade in New York.  And no, we are not talking about Rex Ryan.
