Joakim Noah’s Facial Was Followed By The Best Commentary Ever! (Video)

joakim noah facialDuring the second quarter of last night’s game between the Chicago Bulls and the Miami Heat, Joakim drove down the lane and threw down an emphatic slam over the head of Joel Anthony, resulting in an even more emphatic call from Bulls color commentator Stacey King.

“I didn’t come for the massage!  I came for the facial!”

Interesting call from King, but I’m not buying it.  After all, who ever really goes for the facial instead of the massage?

In the end, the Bulls would emerge victorious, despite not having Derrick Rose in their line-up due to a groin injury.  Here’s a look at the slam and the call.  And trust me when I say that they are both beauties.

Rali IvanovaHere are some of the best sports plays for all you gamblers out there.

The Game: UNC-Asheville vs. Syracuse

The Pick: Syracuse -15

The Reason: Syracuse may be without the services of Fab Melo for the NCAA Tournament, but don’t expect that to slow them down in their opening game against UNC-Asheville.  The Orange have already played without Melo for three games this season, and while they did lose one of those games to Notre Dame during that time, the Irish are a much tougher opponent than UNC-Asheville.  I expect the loss of Melo to slow them down in the coming rounds, but not yet.  Look for the Cuse to cruise as they come out hard in their opener today.

The Game: Toronto Maple Leafs @ Tampa Bay Lightning

The Pick: Lightning -130

The Reason: The Leafs have been terrible as of late, winning only one of their last twelve games.  They have struggled to score since hiring Randy Carlyle as their new head coach, and tonight they will take on a team that has been doing plenty of scoring as of late.  Needless to say, that equation does not work out well for the Leafs.  The Lightning come into this game having won six of their last eight, and while they have lost both meetings to Toronto this season, we expect that to change tonight as Tampa takes advantage of a struggling team and comes away with the victory.

Gatineau Olympiques Head Coach Throws Garbage On Ice During Tantrum (Video)

gatineau coach tantrumIf you asked Gatineau Olympiques head coach Benoit Groulx what he thought about the no-call following a knee to his team’s leading scorer, Tomas Hyka, he’d probably describe the performance from the QMJHL officials as “garbage.”  And if that is the case, I guess you can say that he left his feelings on the ice last night following his first period tantrum during the Olympiques’ game against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.

Despite watching his top player go down with what could be a serious injury, Groulx’s team still found themselves on the penalty kill as a result of an instigating penalty to Rock Régimbald, who went after Vincent Richer immediately following the cheap-shot. That turn of events was enough to set Groulx off, as he was ejected from the game after arguing the call and throwing garbage, sticks and other objects onto the ice.

nadal fan faceplantI always knew women would do just about anything to get their hands on the balls of Rafael Nadal, but who knew that some men shared similar feelings about the world class tennis player?

I guess I should have saw something like this coming after a male court-intruder tried to kiss the Spaniard a few years ago at the US Open.  And it appears as though Nadal has become much more comfortable with his adoring male fan base, as he was kind enough to offer a comforting hug to this male fan following his embarrassing faceplant at the Indian Wells tournament.

25 Embarrassing Sports Fan Gifs

One of the reasons human beings love sports so much is that it provides an outlet for our passion. Lord knows you can’t go to work shirtless with a giant purple letter painted on your chest, and you certainly can’t scream your head off at your boss when he messes something up. So you go to a basketball game after work, have a few beers, and berate the ref.

Of course, from time to time our emotions get the better of us and we get a little carried away. Sometimes this results in nasty fan fights, which can be scary. But most of the times, it just results in people making total asses of themselves—which can be hilarious.

Today, we’re going to keep things light and celebrate the latter. So here for your amusement are 25 gifs of sports fans embarrassing themselves.

Your welcome.

Southern Miss Band Asks Kansas State’s Angel Rodriguez, “Where’s Your Green Card?” (Video)

angel rodriguezOne of the opening games of the 2012 NCAA Tournament was a tightly contested match-up between No. 8 Kansas State and No. 9 Southern Mississippi.  The Golden Eagles new that they would have to do everything in their power to throw off the Wildcats players if they were going to come away victorious, and even their band was doing everything they could to help their cause.  But while the band did go awfully far in their efforts to distract the Kansas State players, many would say that they may have gone a little too far.

At least that is my assessment of the situation, after listening to the band chant “Where’s your Green Card” at the Wildcats’ Angel Rodriguez as he headed to the foul line for a couple of free throws during the final minutes of the half.  Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles and their band, those racist comments would only motivate Rodriguez (who is Puerto Rico), as he posted 13 points, four rebounds and three assists (all above his season averages in each category) and the Wildcats earned the 70-64 victory.

You can listen to the racist chants from the Southern Mississippi band in the video below.

This Day In Sports History (March 16th) – Brittanie Cecil

It was on this day in 2002 that 13-year-old Brittanie Cecil was struck in the head by a puck while attending a Columbus Blue Jackets game at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.  Brittanie died two days later of a torn vertebral artery, which resulted in severe clotting and swelling of the brain.

It was the second period of a game between the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets when Columbus forward Espen Knutsen fired a slap shot that was deflected by Flames defenseman Derek Morris.  The puck was sent flying over the glass and would hit young Brittanie in the left temple.

This was the first fan fatality at an NHL game in the 85 year history of the league.  The incident would result in the league implementing mandatory netting behind each goal at every arena prior to the start of the 2002-03 season.

Here is a tribute to Brittanie Cecil.

This Failed Dunk Looks Like It Hurt (Video)

dunk failGuys like Blake Griffin and Jeremy Evans make dunking a basketball look easy, but believe me when I say that it is not as easy as it looks.  The dude in the video below would probably agree with me on this one.

I will give him credit where credit is due.  He did show quite a bit of height during his takeoff, as he was able to grab the rebound off the backboard and get his hands above the rim, but the finish and the ensuing landing could use a bit of work.  Although he may want to take care of that concussion before giving it another shot.

The Game: Calgary Flames @ Edmonton Oilers

The Pick: Flames +105

The Reason: The Calgary Flames are in a dogfight for the final few playoff spots in the Western Conference, and they have been doing a great job keeping themselves in it, winning their last five straight.  Tonight they take on an Edmonton team that has won just two of their last eight overall, and one of their last six at home.  The Flames have won nine of their last ten against the Oilers, and seven of the last eight meetings in Edmonton.  Look for them to inch closer to a playoff birth with a win tonight.

The Game: Washington Capitals @ Winnipeg Jets

The Pick: Jets -125

The Reason: The Jets have a big opportunity to gain some ground on the eighth-place Washington Capitals tonight as the two teams battle it out for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  The Jets have been great at home all year, posting a 22-10-4 record in front of what many consider to be the best home crowd in the NHL.  The Jets are 6-2-1 at home this season against division opponents, while the Caps are 3-6-1 on the road within the division.  Look for the Jets to use the energy of the crowd to get the big win tonight.

Check Out Tim Brent’s Awkward Premature Celebration (Video)

$

tim brent premature celebrationThere are actually two great parts about this clip.

The first is Tim Brent’s celebration following what he believed to be a goal during last night’s game against the St. Louis Blues.  After hitting the post on a breakaway, the Hurricanes’ center was eager to celebrate what he thought was a goal, but this wasn’t going to be just any type of celebration.  Brent appeared to be preparing himself for a full-windmill fist-pump.  The only problem was he didn’t score, which put an abrupt end to his celebration as he looked at the Canes’ bench with his palms in the air.

As for the other great part about this clip, that would be the toe save that Brian Elliott made on the rebound.

You can watch both highlights in the video below.  Make sure you wait until the end for the toe save!

Jeremy Lamb’s Needless Dunk Attempt Was A Big Failure (Video)

jeremy lamb failA miss on a breakaway windmill dunk during the final seconds of a 13-point loss to Iowa State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament seemed like quite the appropriate way for the UConn Huskies to end their 2011-12 season.

A team stacked with talent, the Huskies simply couldn’t get the job done when it counted, finishing the year with a 20-14 record overall, and a disappointing 8-10 record in Big East play.  Their season came to an embarrassing end last night in Louisville, as a couple of Huskies players forced a needless turnover while the Cyclones attempted to run off the final seconds of the clock, resulting in the following missed breakaway dunk by Jeremy Lamb.

I know Jim Calhoun probably tells his players to play until the final whistle, but I think they could have ignored his advice in this instance.  They didn’t, and the result was this lowlight.

11 Of The World’s Greatest Drunken Athletes

Saturday is St. Patrick’s Day, the one day a year where we celebrate all things Irish. It also happens to be the one day a year where it’s perfectly acceptable to be drunk by ten o’clock in the morning—because we love cultural stereotypes and pretty much any excuse to get sloshed.

Now, last year Total Pro Sports celebrated St. Patty’s Day with a (really) short list of the greatest Irish athletes. So rather than more of the same, we thought that this year we’d celebrate the other aspect of the holiday and do a list of the greatest drunken athletes. Strangely, we found that there a lot more guys to choose from. However, since you might already be wasted, we’re still going to keep the list pretty short.

So without further ado, behold 11 of the world’s greatest drunken athletes.

Blake Griffin Airs Out Two Free-Throws In A Row (Video)

blake griffin airball free throwWhen it comes to dunking, few in the NBA do it better than Blake Griffin. When it comes to free-throws, few do it worse.

Griffin currently has the second-worst free-throw percentage among all qualified NBAers, with a terrible 55% conversion rate (only Dwight Howard is worse, at 48.7%).  And his struggles from the line were never more evident that during the second quarter of Wednesday night’s game against the Atlanta Hawks, as the 2011 Slam Dunk champion aired out two consecutive free-throw attempts.

Griffin may want to try dunking the ball from the free throw line next time.  Or maybe he should adopt the granny shot.  All I know is that he better do something, because what he is doing at the moment clearly isn’t working for him.

You can check out his back-to-back airballs in the video below.

Canadian Paralympics Curler Jim Armstrong Banned For Dopping

jim armstrong

The life of Canadian curler Jim Armstrong can best be described as a wild roller-coaster ride.  The 61-year-old dentist had represented British Columbia at six consecutive Brier curling tournaments during the 1980s.  In 2003, he suffered a car accident, which forced him to sell his dental practice and has placed him in a wheelchair ever since.  In 2005, his wife was diagnosed with cancer, and she would pass away four years later.  Armstrong took up wheelchair curling in 2007 and in 2010 he would skip the Canadian Paralympic curling team to a gold medal, but later in the year he and his son were charged for importing and selling counterfeit Viagra and Cialis pills.

Now his life story has taken another dramatic turn, as he has been banned by the Canadian Curling Association and World Curling Federation after failing an out-of-competition doping test in December.  Armstrong plans to appeal the decision, claiming that he had unknowingly taken tamoxifen pills that his wife was using to treat her breast cancer because they got mixed in with his pills that he takes for his physical ailments.

Tamoxifen is often used by athletes to counter the side-effects of steroids (i.e. the growth of lady-like breasts), but I may actually be buying Armstrong’s story in this instance.  After all, what kind of a curler thinks he needs roids to get a upper hand on the competition?

Frozen Fisticuffs Fight Of The Night — Simmonds vs. Martin — 3/15/12

martin vs simmondsThe New York Islanders were having a tough time holding their own on the scoreboard against the Philadelphia Flyers last night, as they found themselves trailing by a score of 3-0 before scoring two goals late in the third period.  However, they weren’t having the same problem in the fighting department, thanks to some fine work from the fists of Matt Martin.

After watching one of his teammates go down following a hit from Martin, the Flyers’ Wayne Simmonds decided to step in.  He would put forth a valiant effort, but Martin would earn the decision in this bout, which was a worthy recipient of the “Frozen Fisticuffs Fight of the Night” for Thursday, March 15, 2012.

Tim Tebow Is “Excited” To Be A New York Jet (Video)

tim tebow excited jetsTim Tebow sure does seem to be awfully excited about being a member of the New York Jets these days.  So how excited is he?  Excited enough that he couldn’t help but use the word “excited” a total of 45 times when he was introduced to the New York media during yesterday’s press conference.

And in case you don’t believe that it is possible to use the word “excited” that many times in a single press conference, we have proof thanks to the “excited” counter in the video below.

If Tebow gets that excited about being traded to a dysfunctional team that plans on using him as a back-up quarterback, I don’t even want to begin to imagine how excited he is going to be when he finally loses his virginity and has sex for the first time.

This Day In Sports History (March 27th) — NCAA Tournament

ncaa basketballIt was on this day in 1939 that the first ever NCAA Basketball Tournament Championship was awarded.  Oregon would go on to win the championship, beating Ohio State in the finals.

Only eight schools were involved in the first ever NCAA men’s basketball tournament, as opposed to the 68 that are involved in today’s tournament.  Oregon would get to the finals by beating Texas and Oklahoma in West Region play, while Ohio State would represent the East Region by beating Wake Forest and Villanova.

In the finals, Oregon would go on to dominate Ohio State, running away with the 46-33 victory thanks to some stellar coaching from Howard Hobson.  Jimmy Hull of Ohio State would lead the tournament in scoring, with 58 points, and was named the Tournament MVP.

With the 2012 edition of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament nearing its end, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top this time around.  My money is on the Kentucky Wildcats.

Here is a look at some of the greatest NCAA Tournament buzzer beaters of all time.

7-Foot-8 Harlem Globetrotter Can Dunk Without Jumping (Video)

tiny dunkThey call him “Tiny,” but there is clearly nothing tiny about a man who can dunk a basketball on a regulation size net without even having to jump!

While most of the other Harlem Globetrotters players are known for their superior dribbling skills and impressive leaping abilities, Tiny Sturgess is best known for his incredible height, as he is the tallest Globetrotter member ever.  The 24-year-old played his college ball for Mountain State University and he has now settled in as a member of the traveling basketball sideshow.

You’d think that most NBA team would be interested in acquiring a 7’8″ man that can dunk a basketball without jumping.   And while I’m not quite sure how the rest of Tiny’s game measures up against NBA standards, I am quite certain that the following video is all NBA scouts need to see in order to be impressed by this giant’s abilities in the paint.

Chrissa CarolynHere are some of the best sports plays for all you gamblers out there.

The Game: New York Islanders @ Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pick: Over 5.5

The Reason: The Penguins have been doing plenty of scoring with Sidney Crosby back in the line-up as they have gone over the total in seven of their last eight overall, and four of their last five at home.  They have scored an average of 5.5 goals in their last four games, while giving up an average of just under four goals against over that span.  The Pens rank first in the league in scoring, with 3.4 goals per game, and second in home scoring with 3.7 goals per game at the Consol Energy Center.  Look for them to score plenty of goals against the Islanders tonight as this game goes over the total.

The Game: Nashville Predators @ St. Louis Blues

The Pick: Under 5

The Reason: The Blues have gone under the total in four of their last five games.  They enter tonight’s game having given up one goal of fewer in three of their last four games.  Tonight they take on a Predators team that has played fairly good defensively on the road this season, giving up just 2.7 goals against away from home this season.  Eight of the last ten games between these two teams have gone under the total, with one push and one over.  Look for another low-scoring battle to unfold between these two teams as this game goes under the total.

2012 Record: (51-57-5), This Week: (1-1), Last Week: (2-8)
